Boracay Island

Borocay Island, Philippines.

Boracay Island is the Jewel in the crown when we speak about the tropical Islands of the Philippines. It is located 315 km (200 miles) south of the capital Manila in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines and is approximately seven kilometers long, and around 3 kilometers. As beaches stand Boracay Island provides some of the most beautiful tropical beach escapes that you could ever discover in South East Asia  and has been recognized as such by being Voted the best beach in the world on numerous occasions, with it’s soft powdery white sandy beaches, crystal clear tropical waters it is easy to understand why.

The news of Boracay Island did not take too long to spread with the 1980′s backpacking community spreading the word of an island with truly beautiful qualities you would expect when holidaying in the tropics. Before too long Boracay became a must see destination in the region which has led to an explosion in tourism and in turn the traping which come with that such as 5 star Resorts and unfortunately busy numbers in peak season. This should not deter you as Boracay Island  really is an Tropical Island Paradise that will forever be etched in your memory once you have experienced her beauty.

The Beaches of Boracay Island

Boracay has many beaches scattered through out the Island from smaller quieter beaches for people looking to get away from the crowd to the two largest and most popular beaches called White Beach and Bulabog Beach, which are situated on opposite sides of the island’s narrow central area.

White Beach is the main tourist beach of Boracay Island. It is four kilometers long and lined with coconut palms with pristine clear waters, White Beach is home to the majority of resorts, hotels, restaurants, bars and other tourism-related businesses. It is the beach that is most well known not just for it’s beautiful white sandy beaches, where it’s name originates, but is also synonymous with the islands party scene where you can drink and dance till the early hours of the morning.

Bulabog Beach is located only a 5 min walk from the amenities of white beach and is a far more laid back beach experience. Bulabog beach attracts windsurfers and kiteboarders alike especially from November to April when the strong offshore winds blow along the the whole east coast and conditions are perfect to test the skills of most wind faring enthusiasts. It is also a less crowded and developed beach experience.

Boracay’s accommodation.

A number of accommodation types are scattered all over the island, ranging from luxurious hotel types to budget rooms. Depending on your budget you will find what you are looking for. It has to be said, of late the cheaper budget accommodation is becoming more scarce and harder to find and your money does not go as far as it would in neighboring countries such as Thailand.
