Laoliang Islands (Koh Lao Liang Islands) are untouched twin islands made of limestone that majestically rise 80 meters out the Andaman Sea located 20 kms off the west coast of Southern Thailand in the Koh Petra Marine Park. The north and south Lao Liang islands are breathtakingly beautiful making it one of the most serene and beautiful tropical beach getaways in Thailand and should be experienced if you are in this part of southern Thailand.
North Lao Liang Island also called Lao Liang Nong (little brother) Island, the North of twin Lao Liang island is a tiny island which has the only resort located on the islands and features one cozy beach facing east with white powdery sand and pristine tropical waters which have an abundance of marine wildlife and corals that you can witness it’s underwater beauty snorkeling just meters off the beach. It’s a tiny island which you can easily kayak around it in just over half an hour.
South Lao Liang Island? also known as Lao Liang Pee (Big Brother), the South of twin Lao Liang Islands accommodates a tiny village of local fishermen. This island is bigger than Lao Liang Nong and features a longer white sandy beach also facing east and is easily accessed using kayaks.
Both islands have great snorkeling and swimming as the waters really are pristine and clear with unspoiled coral gardens and plenty of schools of fish to see.
The island only has one eco friendly resort which has no rooms but tents as accommodation. All tents are set right on the beach, under the shade of a naturally growing forest. There is no air conditioning and shared bathroom amenities with cold-water showers for all. While the tents are reasonably comfortable, it must be stressed that this is not a luxury resort and therefore there is no room service, television, or modern amenities found in most other holiday resorts.
Koh Lao Liang offers a unique and affordable back-to-nature tropical beach eco-experience which will give you a unique once in a lifetime holiday on a truly breathtakingly beautiful island. Most stays will require you to book 3 night packages and it is important to understand that the island is only open for visitors from Nov- May of every year. It is recommended that you book in advance as the island accommodates a maximum of 60 people so if you don’t book you won’t get a tent.
Koh Lao Liang is not recommended for people who don’t like Thai cuisine as there are no other restaurants on the island other than the resort restaurant whose chef will cook traditional thai dishes.
